Our journey began over 175 Years ago when we first started as craftsmen, manufacturing coffins and caskets that set the standard for excellence. These quality coffins found their resting place in cemeteries all across the country, earning a reputation for their enduring strength and impeccable craftsmanship. One remarkable account that has been passed down through the generations tells the story of a gravedigger who opened a grave for a grieving family and found one of our coffins below. Astonishingly, it was still in immaculate condition over 50 years later. This remarkable testament to the quality of our work serves as a powerful reminder of our commitment to providing the very best for those we serve.
Our grandfather, Willie Conneely, was a pioneer for embalming in the West of Ireland. In the early years, he became the first person to introduce embalming in the West after obtaining his British Institute of Embalming qualification. Willie recognized the importance of this practice which allowed families to say their final farewells in a more dignified manner. Since then both Robert and Anne Conneely followed in his footsteps, with Anne becoming the first female embalmer in Galway. Almost half a century after Willie's pioneering efforts, his legacy lives on through his grandson, Ronan Conneely, who achieved one of the highest scores ever recorded in his embalming exams from a prestigious embalming institute at the young age of 20. Ronan has since been recruited to work for International companies specializing in reconstructive embalming and disaster cases.
Over the decades, our commitment to embalming care for the greater Galway area has grown stronger. Today, we take pride in being the trusted providers of embalming services for the majority of County Galway, ensuring that every individual receives the utmost care and respect.
We take pride in our history and are dedicated to carrying forward the legacy of excellence established by our founders in 1845. We are honored to be a part of your community, and we look forward to being here for you and your loved ones in your time of need.
